Student Dress and Grooming Code

Student Dress and Grooming Code

In Taekwondo it is important that the dress code and grooming code be followed at all times. If a student has any questions about this information please speak to one of the Instructors or School Managers.

Good Hygiene practices should always be followed. Fingernails and Toenails should be kept trimmed to prevent injury to yourself and others. Long hair should be kept in a ponytail. If needed, students should wear deodorant. If a student attends class and is not following good hygiene practices they may be asked to correct the issue before taking class.

Students are not allowed to wear jewelry or watches during class (only exception is a wedding band - silicone bands preferred). Uniforms must be clean and not wrinkled. Uniforms must properly fit the student. If a student is not wearing the correct uniform for the class, an instructor may require the student to fix the issue before they can take class or an instructor may impose an appropriate amount of pushups. (Instructors may make exceptions under special circumstances, do not abuse this.)

Formal Uniform - Full Uniform (Top, Pants, and belt) - The uniform top (long sleeve) and uniform pants must be one of the following combinations: black top and black pants, white top and pants, or white top and black pants, with either no shirt worn underneath or a plain white shirt (Female students should wear a white shirt/tank top underneath). Patches should be added to uniform by the time a student gets their blue belt. As a school, we have moved to the black top and black pants combination.

Tournament Uniform - Full Uniform (Top, Pants, and belt) - The uniform top must be the traditional white or black uniform with either no shirt worn underneath or a plain white shirt (Female students should wear a white shirt/tank top  underneath). The uniform pants must be white or black to match the top. (Black Belts are required to have their name/location embroidered under back school patch - see instructor for details). Everyone attending tournaments needs to match colors.

T-shirt Uniform - T-shirts can only be worn on normal class days and certain events. T-shirts must be from Pell City Martial Arts (Freedom Martial Arts - Pell City, Pell City Taekwondo and solid colored t-shirts are also allowed for classes only). Shirts must be tucked in. Uniform pants and belts must be worn with a T-shirt. (The T-shirt uniform should never be worn to formal events - ex. testing, awards, and tournament)

Casual - At special events the instructors may inform students and event guests that the event is casual attire. This means that students do not have to wear their uniform or belt. (Example - Parties and quarterly events)
