School Policies

Policies stated below apply to persons involved with Pell City Martial Arts including but not limited to visitors, prospective students, students, member families, instructors and staff.

1. YES/NO MA'AM/SIR - we want all our students to have respect for the other students and instructors alike. We want that respect to boil over to home, school and other places as well. To that end, we want our students and instructors alike to respond to questions with YES/NO MA'AM/SIR. This is a HUGE sign of respect. If an instructor or school manager hears a student (or if the school manager hears an instructor) respond any other way than YES/NO MA'AM/SIR we will institute the following:

• Little Eagles Class - two warnings, then 5 pushups

• Jr. White & Yellow Class - one warning, then 5 pushups

• Jr. Green-Probationary Black Belt - no warning and 10 pushups

• 1st Degree Black Belt and up - no warning and 20 pushups

2. VISITORS (non-students) – all visitors must be accompanied by members at all times and should be introduced to the School Manager upon arrival.  Parents may not leave any junior visitor without adult supervision.

3. ARRIVAL/DEPARTURE – parents may drop their children as much as 15 minutes before class and should pick them up no later than 15 minutes after the scheduled end of class.  Parents are responsible to verify that the required number of adults (TWO) is present prior to leaving or dropping off their children.  Siblings that attend different classes may ARRIVE and DEPART together.  In the case of special circumstances or specific scheduling needs the School Manager will try to work out temporary exceptions.

4. PARTICIPATION – any individual participating in PELL CITY MARTIAL ARTS activities must be on a current membership or activities registration and hold harmless agreement.

5. LATE PAYMENTS – Membership dues and late fees are owed per the membership agreement regardless of attendance. Members with monthly tuition 10 days past due may not be permitted to participate in testing, tournament, clinics or other events.  In addition, class privileges may be suspended until notification of payment is verified.

6. MISSED CLASSES - In order to help facilitate all of our students, we will be implementing the following attendance policy beginning January 1, 2025 moving forward for ALL STUDENTS. Any students that misses more than 6 weeks WITHOUT any communication with the school (which includes email, calling and texting) and whose tuition is in a OVERDUE STATUS, this student's class spot will no longer be reserved and can be given to the next student on the school waiting list. If you have any questions regarding the MISSED CLASS POLICY, as with any other school policy, please make sure to reach out to a School Manager (Mr. Andy or Mrs. Kerri) during class time or via call/text.

7. LATE EVENT REGISTRATION - If a member misses the registration date for an event, that member may either not be able to register or may be charged a $10 late fee.

8. SUBSTANCE ABUSE – no alcohol or drugs are permitted on PELL CITY MARTIAL ARTS property.  Anyone suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs will not be permitted on PELL CITY MARTIAL ARTS property.

9. SMOKING/VAPING – No Smoking/Vaping in the school or near the doors.  No Smoking/Vaping in uniform.

10. CONDUCT UNBECOMING – rude, abusive or hostile conduct of any nature will not be tolerated.  Disciplinary actions could range from verbal reprimands to membership cancellation and even legal consequences.

11. MEMBER CONFLICTS - Any member conflicts should be brought up to the School Manager.

12. PROPER ADDRESS – All black belts and Instructors should be referred to as Sir, Ma’am or Mr., Ms., Miss., or Mrs. and their last name regardless of age.

13. VIDEOING/PHOTOS - While we do not mind parents taking photos of their children during class time, testing time, and especially awards ceremonies, nor do we mind parents videoing portions of their children doing something special (example - board breaking), we do not allow videoing of the entire class time nor other students during these events. This is to protect the privacy of ALL of our students, parents and other guests. As a reminder, there is a PHOTO/VIDEO RELEASE that has been signed on the STUDENT WAIVER when your student signed up for class that allows Staff of Pell City Martial Arts to take and use photos and videos.
